Eek! I don’t know what to write about this verse. This much I know: Life is better when you follow God and his commands. Especially in the OT!
“So Ehud made a double-edged dagger that was about a foot long, and he strapped it to his right thigh, keeping it hidden under his clothing.” ~NLT
So…Ehud gave the evil king a message from God that included plunging a dagger into the king’s belly. Then he bolted! Wow.
Let’s back up. God has instructed his people to drive out evildoers. It’s all over the OT. In this case, Israel has once again done evil in the Lord’s sight so the Lord gave King Eglon of Moab control (because of their evil). In the period of Judges, God sent judges to save Israel, so in this case, God made Ehud a judge who was supposed to save Israel from the king and set Israel straight.
Ehud didn’t verbalize a message to the king. He told the king that he had a message from the Lord that only he was allowed hear. In doing that, Ehud was able to get the king into a room alone with him. He also got the king to stand in reverence because it was a message from the Lord. I guess the nonverbal message was something to this effect: “Your reign is OVER!”.
Y’all, I’m not sure if it’s because I picked OBEDIENCE as my word for 2016 or what, but this message again screams the importance of obedience to God. Amen!
